Postpartum Yoga

After childbirth, it is recommended to wait for quarantine before integrating a “normal” Yoga class, even up to 10 weeks in the event of a cesarean section. But keep in mind that the first 6 weeks after giving birth are essential for the recovery of the mother. You can start Postpartum Yoga from birth. The baby can be included in the relaxation and meditation exercises from the start.

The baby absorbs the habits he experiences with his parents, it is necessary to relax with them so that they develop this quality. In classes with Shanti, you can come with your baby and start your recovery by creating a stronger bond with him/her and sharing experiences with other mums.

Frequently Asked Questions

We answer your question

Can yoga reduce pregnancy pain?

Yes, a woman’s body changes very quickly to be able to carry her growing baby every day. The center of gravity of your body changes, compensations are made iin the back, in the feet. In Prenatal Yoga classes, we work on abdominal activation and stretching of the spine to improve posture and thus avoid back pain.

Thanks to some breathing exercises and opening of the thoracic area, we will avoid discomfort in the abdomen and reduce this feeling of oppression due to the lack of space.

By working on the flexiblity of the hips, we will help create space in this area and relieve pain in the uterus and lower back.

We perform light piriform stretches to relieve sicatic pain that often occurs during pregnancy.

We also work on transit, circulation and relaxation to increase energy levels and improve sleep, which leads to better physical condition.

What is a prenatal yoga class like?

The course usually begins with a moment of awareness, to consciously enter the practice and try to concentrate in order to take advantage of all the benefits of the course. We generally do some breathing exercises (pranayama) and then we start with a general warm-up to preapare the joints. We continue with some sun salutations and then we work on some postures (asanas) adapted to the trimester in which the future mother is. After these exercises, we end the class with relaxation, meditation, dances or songs that will help us connect with our baby and accept this new stage of our life.

How does yoga help during childbirth?

Yoga practice can also improve the birthing experience.

Physically, the mother-to-be will have her body more and more prepared. You will feel stronger, more flexible and prepared for the physical demands that this moment demands. You will have greater awareness of your pelvic floor to stimulate or release it, and you will have greater awareness and control of your breathing.

Proper breathing increases the ability to revitalize the respiratory and circulatory system. And, of course, the benefits of this oxygenation also reach the baby during delivery. Being aware of this and being able to regulate it will be of great help to you.

Also on an emotional and mental level, you will feel safer, stronger, and with more tools to deal with this moment.
